Operation’s Manager, Severn Lodge
A leading Muskoka Resort located in the heart of the world famous Muskoka Lake district is looking for a seasoned Operation’s Manager. This is a full-time salaried position who will lead and support the property with focus on four key departments; Housekeeping, Recreation, Waterfront, and Dinning Room/Bar.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Manages and oversee the daily operation of Severn Lodge as a leading Muskoka Resort ensuring hospitality excellence in partnership with the GM.
- Manage and oversees four key operational departments of Severn Lodge including Housekeeping, recreation, waterfront and dining room/bar including scheduling, budgets, daily task management focusing on guest satisfaction, employee satisfaction and organizational satisfaction, while ensuring overall hospitality excellence
- Conducts daily check in’s, stand up meetings, and creates operational checklists/procedures for each of the four departments
- Develops and implements safety training for all departments and ensures safety manuals are up to date
- Conducts daily site inspections of key guest areas to ensure cleanliness, proper arrangement/aesthetic and safety is of the highest standard i.e.: guest rooms, dining rooms, waterfront, bar areas etc.
- Ensure all operations/equipment and facilities within housekeeping, recreation, waterfront and dinning room are in good working condition and schedule updates/maintenance as required with maintenance team
- Manages 3rd party supplier relationships within assigned departments
- Plans and executes beverage strategy and forms relationships and partnerships with beverage suppliers and develops new opportunities i.e.: bar service during nightly entertainment
- Manages and oversees the execution of an elevated dinning experience for guests and is the direct supervisor to dinning room manager and bar manager
- Manage all third party entrainers i.e.: ski show, nightly entertainment and be onsite contact, ensuring all setups for their services are complete day/night
- Manage all motorized watercrafts including safety, schedules and guest experience including jet skis, waterskiing program, outboard boats to ensure they are well maintained, and all safety waivers and procedures are in place and revenue is increased
- Manage all lifeguards including schedules and conduct
- Manage all staff living accommodations with respect to policy/producers/safety/living
- Manage with GM “staff culture” i.e.: resort night/team building
- Manages and executes the operations of all weddings/corporate events i.e.: tent move in and out, set up, lawn care etc.
- Collect all staffing hours weekly and input into our payroll system for housekeeping, dining room, recreation and waterfront and approve
- Problem solve as issues arise with guests, employees, structures and mechanical on an ongoing basis
- Interact with all guests on a daily bases at key touch points such as daily meals, waterfront, grounds and have a daily presence
- Solves guest queries and challenges in key departments and ensures the resolution is to the guest’s satisfaction
- Step in and assists in absence of any manager
- Various administrative tasks as required
Roles and Responsibilities More Specific to Off Season
- Work along side the Maintenance Manager on various capital improvements and maintenance projects

- Program planning for the year ahead in key departments; laundry, dining room, waterfront and recreation alongside GM

Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in a related field from an accredited university / college plus at least five (5) years of related experience.
- Strong understanding of beverage and culinary
- Experience working with both branded and independent hotels/resort settings, preferably previous experience in a similar Muskoka resort or unique vacation destination resort
- Lifestyle experience in food/beverage/events/service/maintenance/exceptional hospitality and customer experience
- Proven ability in building and inspiring strong teams and developing direct reports as well as positively influencing all levels of the organization
- Compelling communication skills and ability to provide succinct, actionable guidance, feedback and corrective action
- HR knowledge/experience. Preferably some level of formal training or proven understanding
- Sense of urgency
- An exceptional personal aesthetic with particular attention to personal appearance and can demonstrate a high level of professionalism and hospitality
- Hospitable, engaging and charismatic are qualities that are preferred asset as guest interaction will be key
- A “can do” attitude with the understanding that all jobs are for doing, and as a leader has a hands on approach
- Preferably lives locally or within a 30-45min drive (Barrie, Muskoka, surrounding area)
- The ability to work hospitality hours and be available 24 hours during the spring/summer/fall season with a set schedule of hours that are in line with the business’s daily operation and guests needs. Flexibility and overtime to be recouped in the off season with a more defined schedule
- Can handle a fast-paced, high energy environment and can troubleshoot and find solutions daily
- Reports to General Manager
Expected Hours:
- Off Season: Five days per week
- Peak Season: One day off per week adjusted based on the demands of the business
- Hours- 11am-8pm resort season May- October
- Hours- 9am-5pm off season- October- April
